Damping Silent Hinge Introduction
Also known as hydraulic buffer hinge, the damping silent hinge is a hardware fitting with a built-in hydraulic damping system. It enables automatic buffering during closing, operates quietly, prevents finger pinching and protects door panels. It is widely used for cabinets, wardrobes, room doors and other furniture.
Working Principle
It consists of an integrated hydraulic damper and return spring. When the door closes to an angle of 15°–60°, the piston squeezes high-viscosity silicone oil. The oil flows slowly through tiny pores, converting kinetic energy into heat to slow down the closing movement for soft and noiseless closure. The damping function does not work when opening the door, ensuring smooth operation.
Key Features
Silent operation: Eliminates loud slamming sounds, ideal for quiet living environments.
Soft auto-close: The door closes gently on its own, effectively preventing finger pinching and hard impact.
Long service life: Made of premium stainless steel or cold-rolled steel, anti-rust and wear-resistant. It maintains stable performance after tens of thousands of opening and closing cycles.
Panel protection: Reduces impact force by over 70%, avoiding panel deformation and edge peeling.
Diverse opening angles: Two main types available: two-stage force hinge (buffers within 45° range) and three-stage force hinge (full-range buffering with free stop function).
Common Types & Applications
By Structure
Cup hinge for cabinets: The most popular type, categorized into full overlay, half overlay and inset styles. Fits door panels with thickness of 16–25mm.
Flat hinge for room doors: Designed for wooden doors and security doors with higher load-bearing capacity and stable buffering performance.
By Force Grade
Two-stage force: Cost-effective option, suitable for low-frequency use furniture such as balcony cabinets and shoe cabinets.
Three-stage force: Full-range buffering and free stop, perfect for frequently used cabinets like kitchen cabinets and bedroom wardrobes.
Selection Guide
Material: Prioritize 304 stainless steel or thickened cold-rolled steel for excellent rust resistance and durability.
Damping performance: Adopts high-quality imported silicone oil, working stably at temperatures from -20℃ to 60℃ with no oil leakage after long-term use.
Load capacity: Standard model for doors under 12kg; reinforced model for 12–20kg doors; heavy-duty model for doors over 20kg.
Installation compatibility: Confirm door panel thickness, overlay type and hole size before installation.
Installation & Maintenance
Installation: Cabinet cup hinges require a 35mm diameter mounting hole. Flat hinges are fixed directly with screws, supporting 3-dimensional adjustment (up/down, left/right, front/back).
Maintenance: No refueling needed. Keep away from strong acid and alkali. Retighten screws in time if loose.
Application Scenarios
Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, shoe cabinets, bathroom cabinets, bedroom doors, children's room doors, elderly room doors, as well as hotels, offices and other spaces requiring a quiet environment.
